Te Tiriti - The Treaty of Waitangi - defines the partnership between Iwi Māori and the NZ Government. Giving effect to Te Tiriti as we work with taonga - treasures - is something we earnestly aspire to do. We are far from experts. We're honoured and moved by the opportunity to grow in our knowledge of Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori as we find ways to give effect to this hugely significant document.
We have experience and expertise growing primary cell lines from birds. Our experience traverses consultation with veterinarians to prepare for tissue sampling, receipt of tissue, tissue dissociation for primary cell line formation, passaging of primary cell lines, and re-animation of primary cell lines from liquid nitrogen. We've worked extensively with bird, human, cattle, sheep and mouse cells. Our team is experienced with short term culture of blood cells from reptiles.
We are skilled at safely storing living cells in liquid nitrogen ( -180ºC). Living cells stored in liquid nitrogen can be re-animated to continue growing in the lab, years, if not decades, later. We've worked with bird, human, cattle, sheep and mouse cells.
Our team has rich experience in animal and wildlife cytogenetics, using a range of techniques to characterise the chromosomes of animals. From giemsa stained metaphases showing all the chromosomes in a single cell, to producing karyotypes, from using fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) to animal genome size measurement and flow karyotypes, our team has the know-how and skills to answer key questions about chromosome and genome make-up in animals and wildlife.
